Nicaragua Inflation Climbs to 55-Month High
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate climbed to 6.09 percent in July 2019 from 5.63 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since December 2014, as prices increased at a faster pace for: food (5.99 percent vs 4.73 percent in June), clothing (4.09 percent vs 3.94 percent), health (6.24 percent vs 6.12 percent), transport (3.19 percent vs 2.59 percent), and recreation & culture (3.70 vs 3.19 percent). In contrast, prices advanced at a slower clip for utilities (4.61 percent vs 5.07 percent) and communications (2.24 percent vs 4.26 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent, accelerating from 0.1 percent in June.

Nicaragua Inflation Rate Slows to 5.63% in June
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate fell to 5.63 percent in June 2019 from 6 percent in the previous month. Prices eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.7 percent from 4.8 percent in May); housing & utilities (5.1 percent from 5.8 percent); transport (2.6 percent from 4 percent); restaurants & hotels (4.2 percent from 4.3 percent); recreation & culture (3.2 percent from 8.2 percent); health (6.1 percent from 6.2 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (46.5 percent from 49.1 percent). Meanwhile, cost went up further for miscellaneous goods and services (10.3 percent from 10 percent); furniture & household equipment (6.6 percent from 6.5 percent); clothing & footwear (3.9 percent from 3.8 percent); and education (7 percent from 6.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1 percent, slowing from a 0.8 percent gain in the prior month.

Nicaragua May Inflation Rate at Over 4-Year High
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate rose to 6 percent in May 2019 from 5.8 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since December 2014, as prices advanced further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.8 percent from 4.5 percent in April); miscellaneous goods and services (10 percent from 8.9 percent); furniture & household equipment (6.5 percent from 6.2 percent); clothing & footwear (3.8 percent from 3.6 percent); health (6.2 percent from 5.8 percent); education (6.8 percent from 6.7 percent); recreation & culture (8.2 percent from 4.1 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (49.1 percent from 50.5 percent). In contrast, cost slowed for housing & utilities (5.8 percent from 5.9 percent) and transport (4 percent from 5.5 percent); and inflation was steady for restaurants & hotels (4.3 percent, the same as in April). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.8 percent, easing from a 1 percent rise in April.

Nicaragua Annual Inflation Rate at Over 4-Year High in April
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate rose to 5.77 percent in April 2019 from 5.08 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since March 2015, as prices went up further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.5 percent from 3.9 percent in March); furniture & household equipment (6.2 percent from 5.6 percent); clothing & footwear (3.6 percent from 2.9 percent); restaurants & hotels (4.3 percent from 3.3 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (8.9 percent from 6.5 percent); health (5.8 percent from 5.7 percent); education (6.7 percent from 6.4 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (50.5 percent from 37.4 percent). Meanwhile, cost eased for housing & utilities (5.9 percent from 6.2 percent); transport (5.5 percent from 5.9 percent); and recreation & culture (4.1 percent from 5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1 percent, slowing from a 1.8 percent gain in March.

Nicaragua Inflation Rate Rises to 5.1% YoY in March
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate rose to 5.08 percent in March 2019 from 3.35 percent in February. Prices increased further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.9 percent from 1.9 percent in February); housing & utilities (6.2 percent from 5.9 percent); transport (5.9 percent from 3.4 percent); furniture & household equipment (5.6 percent from 3.3 percent percent); clothing & footwear (2.9 percent from 2.7 percent); recreation & culture (5 percent from 4.1 percent); restaurants & hotels (3.3 percent from 2.8 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (6.5 percent from 3.2 percent); health (5.7 percent from 5.3 percent); education (6.4 percent from 6.3 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (37.4 percent from 7.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.8 percent, after a 0.3 percent gain in the prior month.

Nicaragua Inflation Rate Edges Up to 3.4%
Nicaragua’s annual inflation rate edged up to 3.35 percent in February 2019 from 3.30 percent in the previous month. It was still the lowest inflation rate since July 2017. Faster inflation was mainly explained by: food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.91 percent vs 1.28 percent in January); housing & utilities (5.86 percent vs 5.70 percent); transport (3.41 percent vs 2.60 percent); furniture & household equipment (3.37 percent vs 2.86 percent), and clothing & footwear (2.69 percent vs 2.26 percent). In contrast, prices advanced at a slower pace for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (7.27 percent vs 7.66 percent), recreation & culture (4.12 percent vs 6.66 percent); and communications (4.74 percent vs 5.68 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 0.3 percent for the second straight month.
